Smart building solutions help Yan'an Museum create an "urban living room"
August 9, 2025

Introduction: This case study outlines the application of intelligent building systems in the Yan'an Museum project, covering environmental control, security integration, equipment maintenance, and enhancements to the visitor experience.

Project Overview

The Yan'an Museum is located in the Yan'an New District scenic area, adjacent to the Yan'an Grand Theater. The project occupies a total site area of approximately 124.04 mu, with a total floor area of approximately 63,358 square meters, of which the exhibition area covers approximately 16,210 square meters. The building complex comprises underground utility and storage areas, above-ground exhibition spaces, and multi-story walkways and arched bridges, serving as a key venue for the display of natural history and folk culture.

Smart Museum Construction Requirements

  • Precise Environmental Control for Cultural Relics: Temperature, humidity, lighting, and air quality require long-term, stable control, which is difficult to achieve in a timely manner using traditional manual methods.
  • High Security Requirements: Multiple systems—including video surveillance, access control integration, and fire response—must work in concert to ensure the safety of exhibits and visitors.
  • Energy Consumption and Low-Carbon Management: The operating costs of mechanical and electrical systems in large venues are high, so data-driven approaches are essential to reduce energy waste.
  • Visitor Experience and Operational Efficiency: Visitor comfort, on-site service efficiency, and fault response speed all impact the venue’s reputation.

Smart Building Solutions

1. Building Automation System (BAS)

By integrating various sensors—including temperature, humidity, illuminance, and CO₂—with HVAC, fresh air, and lighting systems, this solution enables automatic adjustment of environmental parameters.

2. Security and Emergency Response Integration System

Integrates video surveillance, access control, alarms, and fire safety signals into a unified response logic to ensure rapid response and complete record-keeping during incidents.

3. Energy Management Platform

Collects and analyzes data from key energy-consuming systems such as HVAC, lighting, and power distribution to help management identify high-energy-consumption areas and optimize strategies.

4. Visitor Experience and Operations Support

Through a unified platform, this solution enhances equipment status visualization, fault early warning, and on-site service coordination capabilities, thereby supporting visitor experiences and management efficiency.

Project Value

In settings such as museums, where safety, environmental standards, and visitor experience are of the utmost importance, the value of a smart building system extends beyond mere “automation.” It enables the building space, equipment systems, and operational management to form a long-term, sustainable collaborative capability.
